Bible Study Resources for Home Groups

Below is a list of resources you can consider for Bible study series, all free except where indicated.  Most have study guides but for those without study guides you can contact Doreen Wilson,gdewilson@gmail.com, to prepare one for your group.  Please give enough advance notice (at least a week) if you need this support.

If a paid option appeals to the group and funds are an issue please let the church office know and we can entertain covering these costs.  Listed in alphabetical order.

1. Admirato

            link: https://www.admirato.org/users/sign_in

This is a resource provided by Bishop N. T. Wright and other leaders with a range of free and purchased course material.  You’ll need to create an account to access but this is free (and you can unsubscribe from their persistent emails if you don’t wish to receive them.)

On the home page, using the tab Discover, you’ll see options for both courses, group study and devotional studies.  When searching tick off “free” and a range of choices will be given for free series.

A few options to consider:

2. The Bible Project

           link: https://bibleproject.com/

Fantastic resource, all free, consisting of short, animated videos.  The link https://bibleproject.com/videos/ will give you a list of videos, many of them consisting of a series.  Some have study guides, but the church can prepare one for your group if the series is without.

They also offer online Bible studies based on written guides (no videos but links of related videos are included). https://bibleproject.com/guides/

Finally they offer more intensive study through classroom lectures for those interested. https://bibleproject.com/classroom/

Some interesting video series to consider:

3.  Bible Society

            link: https://www.biblesociety.org.uk/

Limited resources but they offer a free overview course on the Bible found here: https://www.biblesociety.org.uk/resources/group-resources

There is also a course on Romans, https://www.biblesociety.org.uk/resources/the-romans-course, for which they ask a donation.

The Canadian Bible Society site provides many resources for text based study.  https://biblesociety.ca/resources/

4. C.S. Lewis Institute

            link: https://cslewisinstitute.org

The institute provides a range of courses, all free, which are for serious study along with some shorter video series. https://cslewiscourses.org/library/

A few of the shorter series include https://cslewiscourses.org/courses/the-adventure-of-joining-god-in-his-work/ The Adventure of Joining God in his Work, a 9 lesson series that each last 20 minutes.

A course on the Chronicles of Narnia, https://cslewiscourses.org/courses/the-chronicles-of-narnia/ which are longer (30-60 minutes each).

5. Eyewitness Bible

            link: https://eyewitnessbible.org/

An interesting resource, free to use, which provides video series on a range of books in the Bible based on a first hand account from a Biblical character.  High quality actors and production. They include geographic, cultural, historical context.  Guides are provided but in the form of reflection, rather than questions.   Examples include:

https://eyewitnessbible.org/pauls-letters/ A 17 part series on all of Paul’s letters.

https://eyewitnessbible.org/three-gospels/  a 13 part series on the synoptic gospels and John

6. The Gospel Coalition

            link: https://thegospelcoalition.org

A great resource with quality teachers, including the late Tim Keller, though it doesn’t offer short, video series.  You can get Bible reading plans, podcasts, articles and some video courses which are usually an hour or more.

From the home page look for the Editorial tab, and under it are choices of Read the Bible, courses, series and videos.

Related, there is a Youtube channel with Tim Keller called Gospel in Life with his sermons and presentations which might be useful.  https://www.youtube.com/@gospelinlife

7.  Study Gateway

Book studies with guides

Though short video series are appealing and easily digested there’s value in tackling a book from time to time, especially if a study guide is available. Two suggestions are listed below, but we’ll be adding more over time.

Prayer, by Timothy Keller.  A practical guide on understanding and improving prayer life.  Study guide can be found here: https://www.pathwaycc.co/prayerseries

Simply Christian, by N. T. Wright – the basics of Christian faith.  Study guide can be found here: https://www.apexbusinesssupport.com/uploads/Tom-Wright-PDF_10233633.pdf
