Caring and Sharing Peel

A Network That Provides Food for Mississauga Families in Need

Did you know that there are many members in Caring and Sharing living in your neighbourhood who have been actively involved in this network for many years? They have united to form a zone that provides a complete personalized food order every week for a different family in a crisis situation. Families with a verified need for food are referred by agencies such as Children’s Aid, Catholic Cross-Cultural Services, Peel Health, Peel District and Catholic School Boards and Victim Services to name a few. Because of the alarming increase in numbers of families in desperate need of food, we are looking for new members so we can help more people. It is hard to believe that even in our own community, more and more children are going to school hungry.

Each member is called by their Team Captain every week and asked to drop off a specific item of food or other household item at a conveniently located Drop off House close to their home for a different family in need each week. With the changing advancement in technology, e-transfer is now an option for those who wish to contribute towards a grocery gift card. We now have three zones that offer the e-transfer option.

The Caring and Sharing network operates from September to June, with the exception of the Christmas Holidays and March Break.

There are many ways you can help if you want to be more involved. You can be a Team Captain, a Zone Captain, or the best job of all, be a Deliverer with a family member or neighbour two or three times a year. Please consider becoming a member of this vital network of people.

Each of us, giving one or two items of food, together with everyone else’s donation, can make a huge difference in a family’s life. It takes so little of your time. Last year Caring and Sharing was able to help over 400 grateful families.
